Such a busy weekend. The Chesapeake committee were out in force at Darlington Championship Show running 2 HOA sessions, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Those running and organising were Molly Barker, Sharon Baxandall, Tracy Boyles, Caroline Griffin-Woods, Chris Hewitson, Christine Mayhew, Gemma McCartney, Lorna Murray, Richard Playle and Sue Worrall. Apologies if I’ve left anyone out.
Second in the ring 25 dogs entered the Breed Classes – 8d, 17b, 4a under judge Mr Frank White. BOB & DCC Boyles & Boyles’ SH CH Pixiesrock Mr Tumnus By Bleyos JW, although already a Show Champion this was Mr Tumnus’ third CC, by SH CH Arnac Weatherdeck Buoy x Chesepi Utica.; RDCC & BV Mahon-Hunns, Hunns & Newton’s SH CH Arnac Bay Huron At Bergelle; BCC Morris’ Baymoss Tweed Of Penrose SGWC, which was her third CC, by CH, Lux CH, INT CH Penrose Incredible EU19 x Penrose Octopussy; RBCC Blaber, Blaber & Blaber’s Oakmarsh Laural JW; BP Mahon-Hunns & Middleton’s Susqudilla Yankee Shadow (imp USA).
Kirsty Watts was as normal whizzing around between the Stakes ring and Breed ring, delighted that Oakmarsh Laural won RBCC (her third). Oakmarsh Little Acorn JW won 3rd in AV Yearling Bitch (Gundog & Toy) and Veronica Royle’s came 2nd in AV Good Citizen D or B (Gundog & Toy) winning £25. Kirsty then took her Oakmarsh team to The Breeders competition coming 1st . Kirsty was thrilled, this was her 4th Team win at 4 consecutive shows.
At 3 years old Baymoss Tweed of Penrose SGWC becomes the youngest Full Champion in the breed. A dual-purpose breed there are very few people who train their dogs to compete for the SGWC. As far as I know there are only 3 other Chesapeakes in the UK who are Full Champions, all of them are bitches. I seriously hope those who win a CC or above don’t let our breed split between show dogs and work.
Following the CC judging the CBRC held another Open Show, 23 dogs entered, 3 absent, judge was Mrs Joy Venturi-Rose.
