I think it is about time the government took a good look at veterinary pricing, with almost a half of veterinary practices owned by the same company, they seem to be able to pluck figures out of then air. I remember when Pet Passports first came into being the rabies vaccination was £20 and the passport was free. Now the vaccine is almost £100, there is no Pet Passport, it has been replaced with a one trip animal health certificate costing £250. Somebody is making a lot of money!!
Jo Coppin, who still has a lot of pain in her knee, is keeping busy stewarding. She was at Gloucester and District Canine Society stewarding many of the gundog breeds. I was surprised how much stewarding Jo does. It is very pleasing to see people put into the dog world without expecting anything back in exchange.
An email from Madeleine Mahon-Hunns, CBRC membership secretary, telling me that the CBRC AGM was being held via Zoom, which was really great news and saves all the time and cost of travelling. Unfortunately, I was out on the mountains all day so could not participate. I hope the meeting went well. Stepping in as treasurer and taking over from Jemma Preece, Lisa Murch was hosting the meeting. Molly Barker was retiring so we will have a new secretary as well. Anyone wishing to contribute to The Chessie Chat/yearbook 2023 please contact Joy Middleton, Chat editor.
Don’t forget that entries for the CBRC show on the 31st March close on the 11th March. There will be no extended date. As I have said previously, unfortunately this now clashes with North Wales Gundog Club. The good news is the CBRC will be running their usual scurry, there will be a photo booth for fun selfies, a raffle and a silent auction. I am pleased to let everyone know that there now will be catering, from Eliza Jade Catering which will be in the main kitchen in the west hall.
My first training morning of the year went well, we concentrated on walls, ditches and lines. All got thoroughly soaked but as we ended up in the pub no one seemed to mind.
