Whilst some dogs may cope with the heat, do remember this year there has been little chance of them acclimatising to the hot weather, so take particular care during exercise and avoid the hot parts of the day especially tarmac and concrete surafaces.
The yellow alert warns those at increased risk should take particular care, which for dogs includes:
– elderly dogs, especially those with heart/breathing problems,
– flat-faced breeds, particularly those with breathing difficulty,
– overweight or unfit animals,
– large breeds,
– thick coated breeds,
– dehydrated dogs (following sickness/travel).
